Donald N. Kirkland II, of Derry, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 15, 2018. Donald graduated from Harvard University in 1962. There, he studied electrical engineering, and ran for the track and field team. He worked as a consulting scientist for 40 years at Raytheon. He enjoyed being a Massachusetts track and field official for 54 years, as well as his involvement as an umpire and administrator for Massachusetts and New Hampshire Little League Baseball for 60 years. He also loved attending his grandson’s soccer games.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jane Kirkland, his son, Donald and his wife Sandra of Derry, his grandson Alex, his brothers, Robert of Mattapoisett, MA and Jon of Rye, NH, his sisters Jeanne of Foster, RI, and Elizabeth and her husband Ray of Epping, NH, and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Private burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Derry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Massachusetts General Hospital, at Mass General Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114-1101.
