Obituary

A.Theodore Welburn of Wellesley and West Dennis, age 74, on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Robert E. and Martha (Grant) Welburn of Boston. Ted lived in Wellesley, a town he loved, for more than 45 years and practiced law in Boston for more than 50 years.
Ted, who grew up in Cambridge and Boston, graduated from the Boston Latin School in 1961, Boston College in 1965, and Boston College Law School in 1968. He started his law career in 1968 at Grabill & Ley, Inc. He worked at Moulton & Welburn from 1987 to 1997. He was Of Counsel with Deutsch Williams Brooks DeRenis & Holland, PC until 2012 and continued to practice law until his passing.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar for 50 years, a past president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a former associate professor of law at Boston College, and member and past commodore of the West Dennis Yacht Club. Ted enjoyed golf, travel, and was renowned for his cooking expertise, especially for family holiday gatherings. One of his most popular dishes was “Veal a la Ted,” which he served annually at the yacht club for many years.
Ted is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marsha Maloney Welburn, and his four children, Peter T. Welburn and his wife Elizabeth of Wellesley, Christopher J. Welburn and his wife Nicole of Wellesley, Kimberly Welburn Troy and her husband Dave of Wethersfield, CT, and Courtney Welburn Sawicki and her husband Eric of Wellesley as well as his sister Roberta Welburn Milstead and her husband Michael of Danville, CA and his 11 grandchildren: Lila, Piper, Jack, Brady, Shea, Shannon, Chloe, Hayley, Harrison, Lucas, and Henry. He was also the brother of the late Robert E. Welburn of West Palm Beach, FL.
Visiting hours at John Everett & Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street, Natick, MA from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Wellesley Hills, 309 Washington Street, Wellesley.
Burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA will be private.
