Obituary

Normand J. Tondreau, 92, of Salem, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Thursday, October 4, 2018. He was the loving husband of Lucille T. (Marchand) Tondreau with whom he had shared 71 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Edmond E. and Alice M. (Goulet )Tondreau. Normand came to Salem at a young age. He joined the Navy in 1944 during World War II and served in the US Navy Armed Guard, on Shore Patrol, and later in the Philippine Islands and Japan. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and married Lucille, the love of his life. He was employed as a machinist for the Atwood & Morrill Company of Salem for the next 38 years, retiring as a quality control inspector. Following his retirement, the couple moved to Seabrook, NH and returned to Salem in 2014.
Normand was devoted to his wife, his family and his country. He loved reading, boating, fishing and all water sports. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1011 of Peabody, American Legion Post 70 of Seabrook, NH, the PLAV Post 56 of Lynn and was a frequent guest of the Salem VFW, Post 1524. He was also a member of Ste. Anne Parish, Salem for many years.
In addition to his wife Lucille, he is survived by two daughters, Pauline M. LaBonte and her husband Ronald of Beverly and Anne Marie Fratangelo and her husband Joseph of Salem, two sons, Robert R. Tondreau and his partner Rochelle LeBlanc of Gilford, NH and Thomas N. Tondreau and his wife Donna of Penacook, NH and his sister Lily Desjardins of Salem. He leaves seven grandchildren, KimberlyLaBonte Kay and husband Jeffrey, Dawn Kerkman and husband Randy, Matthew Tondreau and wife Jennifer, Amy Houlihan and husband John, Jill Fratangelo and partner Joseph Camora, Jennifer DePiano and husband David, and Jason Tondreau and wife Catharine, as well as twelve great-grandchildren, Bailey, Keenan, Bryce, Griffin, Nick, Ellie, Justin, Callie, Jack, Nicholas, Michael, Declan & Zoe, many nieces and nephews and lovingly remembered by Christine Fee and Sandy Kay. He was predeceased by his sister Gloria Rutherford and brother Roger Tondreau.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Thursday,October 11that 10:00 AM to be followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem, MA at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Wednesday, Oct. 10th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Raymond E.
