Obituary

Arlo Frederic Newell, 92, passed to his heavenly reward with his family by his side at home on October 1, 2018. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was born to Leland Boyd and Eula Mae (Baugh) Newell on February 22, 1926 in Stafford, KS. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Helen Louise (Jones) Newell, his parents, brothers, Don and Marion Newell and sisters Peggy Sauers and Amy Payne.

He is survived by his three children, Rebecca Suzonne Douglas (Rex), Samme Le Rousopoulos (Deno) and Eric Frederic Newell (Bonnie); grandchildren Rose Wallis (Ryan), Cassie Kirkpatrick (fiancé Larry Lee), Steven Rousopoulos (Bevin), Kyle Douglas (Cortney), Joel Newell (Jennifer), Miriam Newell-Chadwell (Shawn) and Kate Rousopoulos; great grandchildren David Kirkpatrick, Hailey Kirkpatrick, Bella Newell, Phoebe Wallis, Gabby Newell, Maverick Wallis, Jeremiah Newell, Keldan Douglas, Noah Chadwell, Kendree Douglas and Leland Chadwell; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Jones and Karen Jones of Kansas and many loving nieces and nephews.

Arlo became a Christ follower when he was a teenager and throughout his life shared the Good News of Jesus Christ with people of all ages. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on the U.S.S. Colorado in the Pacific Theater from 1944-1946. He graduated from Anderson College in 1950, received two master’s degrees from Eden Theological Seminary in 1964 and 1968 and two honorary doctorates from Gulf Coast Bible College 1979 and Anderson University in 1990.

He and his wife, Helen, ministered in the Church of God in Indiana, North Carolina, Missouri and Ohio. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of Warner Press, Inc. from 1977 to 1993. He and his wife, Helen, were active members of the Park Place Church of God for almost 40 years.

He preached both nationally and internationally serving the church as a pastor, evangelist, conference leader, teacher, mentor, radio speaker, author and Chair of the General Assembly of the Church of God.
Arlo and his late wife, Helen, donated 4,500 theological and reference books to the Asian Bible College in Kochi, India. As a result, the college now offers a Master of Divinity program and is the best theological library in south India thanks to their generosity

Friends and family may call at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday, October 7 from 4-6 pm. A service of celebration will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 8 at Park Place Church of God with visitation from 10:00-11am. Internment at Maplewood Cemetery will be after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newell Lectureship at the School of Theology, Anderson University, 1100 East Fifth Street, Anderson, IN 46012
