Obituary

ABELY, John Patrick, 29, of Brighton formerly of Wellesley, September 30, 2018, after a 19-year struggle with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, a liver disease. John was the beloved son of Ann T. (Tyrrell) Abely of Wellesley and Joseph F. Abely (Susan) of Wrentham. Loving brother of Bill (Claire) of Acton, Joe of Natick, and Jim (Christine) of Wayland. Doting uncle to Maggie, Molly, Betsy, and Keira. John also leaves numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and step-siblings. He will be missed by his cat Lucy.

John graduated from Wellesley High School and attended Boston College. John was an avid Red Sox fan, a voracious reader, and an encyclopedia of knowledge. He was also an enthusiastic fan of the Grateful Dead, following bands formed by its former members and many cover bands. He particularly enjoyed Bearly Dead and their Wednesday concerts at Thunder Road in Somerville, where John was blessed to have many good and supportive friends.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) WELLESLEY, Thursday, Oct. 4 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours at the funeral home Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 4-7pm. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley. Donations in John’s name can be made to Donate Life America.
