Mark Mathews, 58, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Friday, September 28, 2018, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, September 30, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Bro. Randy Hulsey officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Mathews was born August 25, 1960, in Douglas, Georgia, to Janice Hulsey Mathews and the late Thomas Eugene Mathews. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton and earned his electrician’s certification from Ben Hill-Irwin Tech. He was a master electrician having worked for Amoco Fabric & Fibers in Nashville as well as Hill Electric and Mike Cook Electric. He was an avid guitar player who loved listening to and playing music. He enjoyed fishing and flowers and will be remembered by friends and family as being very witty and very smart.
He is survived by his mother, Janice Hulsey Mathews Sellers of Irwin County; a sister, Leigh & Ray Walker of Irwin County; two nephews, Dylan & Nikki Walker and Triston Walker; a great-nephew, Caleb Walker; and uncle, Rev. Eddie & Kathy Mathews of Thomaston. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Grant Lawton Mathews; and grandparents: Hope & Ruby Barfield Hulsey, J.E. Mathews, Bessie Mathews, and Christine McCarvey Mathews.
