Obituary

NATICK: Edward Kane, 92, a life-long resident of Natick, died at home after a period of declining health on Wednesday, September 26th surrounded by his family. He was predeceased in 2015 by his beloved wife Irene (Khachadourian) Kane.
Edward was born on December 22, 1925 to (late) Frank J. and Mary (Harvey) Kane. He was born and raised in Natick. After graduating from Natick High School, Edward enlisted in the Navy, where he served during World War II. He served aboard the U.S.S Wichita, which served in the Pacific Theater. The ship frequently provided antiaircraft defense during operations in the Central Pacific. He was aboard her, while the ship was heavily involved in the invasion of Okinawa, providing heavy gunfire support to the troops on shore. After, the Japanese surrender, Edward remained aboard while the ship continued to serve as part of the occupation force in Japan and assisted in the repatriation of American military personnel.
Following his service in WWII, Edward returned to Natick, where he was a carpenter for the carpentry union. Edward even built his own home on Union Street. Edward met his wife, Irene, at Antoine’s Bakery in Natick, where his mother encouraged him to ask out the pretty French girl. They shared 41 happy years of marriage and enjoyed traveling to Florida and summers in West Yarmouth. Edward was known for his love of sports and being very friendly. He will be missed.
Edward is survived by his niece Frances, Khachadourian, his nephews Timothy Kane and Edward Kane and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his siblings: Frank, Rita and Charles Kane.
Visiting hours will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick, MA 01760 on Friday, September 28th from 9:00-10:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, MA 01760. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Pond Street, Natick, MA will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Edward’s name to: Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oakes Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
