Obituary

Helen (Bitsakis) Bonatakis passed away on September 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on the island of Crete, Greece. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Olga (Drakakis) Bitsakis. She was a long-standing member of Sts.Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Chicopee and a member of the Cretan Ladies Philopthos Society. Helen worked as a seamstress for many years before retirement. She loved to cook Greek food and have holiday gatherings with her family. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and entertaining. Helen is predeceased by her husband, Kasti Bonatakis, who passed away in May of 2016. She is survived by her beloved family: daughter Georgia and son-in-law Garth Desmarais, her daughter Sophia Bonatakis Parnicky, and her son Michael and daughter-in-law Valerie Bonatakis; six grandchildren Jacqueline and Anthony Desmarais, Nicholas and Alex Parnicky, and Lauren and Jack Bonatakis; along with two great-grandchildren Emily and Brayden Parnicky. She also leaves behind her loving brother John Bitsakis and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 from 4-7 pm at Grisé Funeral Home, 280 Springfield Street in Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018 at 10 am in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church at 11 am. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetary in Chicopee. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, PO Box 112, Chicopee, MA 01022.
