Obituary

Francisco Silvia, Jr., 79, of Westport passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Charlton Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Margaret (Carvalho) Silvia, they shared 53 years of marriage.

Mr. Silvia was born in Fall River, son of the late Francisco and Hilda (Tavares) Silvia and had resided in Westport for most of his life. He served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, here in the United States and overseas. He was employed for 28 years at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Middletown, RI. He was an engineering and electronic technician that provided technical support to the Navy on advance undersea weapons systems. Up until his retirement in 1993, Mr. Silvia was a senior electronics technician and test director for the Naval Seas Systems Command. He performed dockside and at-sea testing of C.C.S. systems on trident submarines. He was a Little League coach here in town and was instrumental in designing the AAU website for his granddaughter's team. Mr. Silvia enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing trumpet. Most of all though, he loved spending time with his family.

Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Michael F. Silvia and his wife Christine of Westport and John Jay Silvia and his wife Janet of Westport; a sister: Delores Mauro of Tiverton; 6 grandchildren: Michaela, Michael, Ryan, Ashlyn, Liam and Nickolas; 3 great grandchildren: Noah, Jackson and Anneliese; along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 P.M.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

Flowers are acceptable or if you wish, a blood donation in memory of Mr. Silvia can be made.
