Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Jacqueline M. (Lynch) Smith, age 73, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 13, 2018 after a lengthy illness at home. She was the beloved wife of George E. Smith for whom she had been married to for 55 years. She was born at Fishers Island, Southold, New York, daughter of Jacqueline (Duff) Hasprey and the late James L. Lynch.

A member of Grace Episcopal Church, Jacqueline attended Swain School of Design and Carol Nash School of Modeling. Jacqueline had an artistic flair for everything she did in life. She and her husband were the creators of the colorfully-painted wooden butterflies that adorned the outside of many homes throughout the New Bedford area. She was employed for many years with Quality Care, Inc. as an award-winning certified nurse’s aide. Upon retiring, she dedicated all of her time to her family as a devoted homemaker and grandmother. She was endlessly creative and her culinary skills were unbeatable!

Survivors are her husband George E. Smith of New Bedford, her mother Jacqueline (Duff) Hasprey of Fall River, her daughter Heather Haggerty and her husband Thaddeus “Ted” Haggerty of New Bedford, her son George M. Smith of Boston, her grandchildren Timothy and Holly, her Uncle Carlin Lynch of Westport and her Aunt Brenda Darling of Fall River.

Visitation will take place in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County Street, New Bedford on Tuesday, September 18 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Her funeral will take place in Grace Episcopal Church 422 County Street New Bedford on Wednesday, September 19 at 11:30 a.m. Everyone attending is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
