CAREY, Robert W. Of Needham, August 20, 2018 in his 101st year. Beloved husband of Anne E. (Levangie) Carey and the late Gloria (Tubman) Carey. Devoted father of Christine M. Conley of Hingham, Noreen Carey-Neville and her husband Peter of Plymouth, Donald A. Carey and his wife Diane of Norfolk, Steven R. Carey of Waltham, and the late Brian A. Carey and his surviving wife Kathleen of Milton. Grandfather of Matthew, Megan, Alissa, Colleen, Katharine, Jaclyn, Kevin, Kaitlin, Colin, Ryan, and Brendan. Also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
He retired as a Senior Vice President from John Hancock Life Insurance Co. In 1963 he graduated from Harvard University's ADVANCED MANAGEMENT PROGRAM.
In retirement Bob was extremely active with his wife Anne in Saint Bartholomew's Parish in Needham. He volunteered as altar server, usher, Head of Blood Drives for 25 years, and Social Club President. In 2010 he received the Cheverus Award from Cardinal O'Malley for dedicated service to the Catholic Church.
In 2003 he received the Governor's award for Health Benefits Counseling in recognition of his 15 years as a S.H.I.N.E. counselor.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM, Thursday, Aug. 23 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours at the funeral home Wednesday, Aug. 22 from 4-8pm. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham.
