Obituary

Peter Hamilton, 77, most recently of Rockland, Massachusetts died on August 12th at South Shore Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Weymouth in 1942, he was the second son of the late George W. Wood Sr. and the late Theresa (Wise) Wood Hamilton.

After his discharge from the Air Force as an Airman First Class, Peter Hamilton served as a Weymouth Police Officer until the mid 1980’s.

He enjoyed reading, journal writing, hunting, and fishing and was a life-long Red Sox fan. In addition, he was an active member of the Weymouth Elks and a Boy Scout Leader for several years. Over most of the past twenty years, he resided on Cape Cod and studied Environmental Science at Cape Cod Community College. He was also an avid church-goer.

Peter Hamilton was predeceased by his older brother, George Wood, formerly of Albany New York, and survived by his sisters, Andrea Hamilton and Linda Hamilton, both of Weymouth, and Pamela (Hamilton) Steele, of Stewart, Florida.

Mr. Hamilton leaves behind three sons; Edward Hamilton of Whitman, Peter Hamilton of Portland, Oregon, Christopher Hamilton and his wife, Carolyn, of Ambler, Pennsylvania. Additionally, he leaves three daughters; Katrina Hamilton of Warwick, Rhode Island, Chrissy Hamilton of Salem, Massachusetts, and Heidi Hamilton and her husband, Luis Panedero of Cranston, Rhode Island. He also leaves his grandchildren; Jacqueline of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Jason Coldwell of Warwick, Rhode Island, Brittany Hamilton of Whitman, Ashley and Justin Panedero of Cranston, Rhode Island, and Jonah Hamilton of Ambler, Pennsylvania, as well as three great grandchildren, Elianna and London Caldwell of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and Abigail Packer of Whitman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour Tuesday August 28 from 9:00-10:00 AM immediately followed by a funeral service starting at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. His military internment will take place that same day at 12:30 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Plans for refreshments following the burial will be announced at the ceremony.
