Obituary

Rose M. Mastrangelo of Stoneridge, Mystic, CT died on Thursday August 16, 2018 at the Avalon Nursing Home. She was 94.

Rose was born in Portchester, NY on September 29, 1923 to the late, Mary and Nicholas Mastrangelo.

Rose joined the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) after high school, and
played softball on the Army’s women’s team and was sought after by the women’s semi-pro softball league. Instead Rose took a job at the Norwalk Hospital as an X-ray technician. She later worked as part of an oncology team until her retirement in 1978.
Rose always looked quite smart in her white uniform.

Rose was predeceased by her lifelong partner Pat Swan, 4 brothers, Nicholas, Phillip, Joseph, Richard and Phillip‘s wife Margaret.
She served as an “aunt” to Pat’s 5 nieces, 8 grand nephews and 2 grand nieces, who all adored her.
She is also survived by her nephew, Mark Mastrangelo of Stamford, CT

Rose and Pat moved to Denver, CO in the late 70’s and spent the summers on Block Island, RI until moving back east to Stone Ridge in Mystic 10 years ago.

Rose had a great sense of humor and wit. She loved to cook, and was known for many of her special dishes, her wedged and roasted potato’s were one of them, and were known as Rose’s Potatoes.

She was also a wordsmith, and master at crossword puzzles. She was passionate about all sports, but was particularly passionate about the NY Yankees.

Rose will be greatly missed by all who have been close to her.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 24, at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic. Burial will be private for the family.
