Obituary

Panagiota "Alice" (Nanopoulos) Ferguson, affectionately known as “Yota” or “Yiayia,” 89, of Richmond, VA, formerly of New Bedford, died Thursday, August 9, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton S. Ferguson and her brother, Constantine Nanopoulos.
She is survived by her children, Gregory Ferguson and his wife, Laura, Geoffrey Ferguson and his wife, Barbara and Heather Ferguson Oti and her husband, Oscar; and grandchildren, Rebekah, Andrew, Graham, Alexis, Giselle and Nathan.
Alice worked for over 50 years for the government as part of the National Park Service, and most recently, for the Social Security Administration, and she served as an advisor to many friends and to the Richmond community. She loved reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Alice enjoyed discussing politics, her favorite TV shows and a good joke, but most of all, she was a caring and generous person who always put others before herself.
Her graveside service will be held on Friday August 17, 2018 at 11:30 AM at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 79411, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
