Alexander J. MacDonald, 65

Dateline: Attleboro, MA

Alexander J. MacDonald, age 65, of Attleboro, formerly of Foxboro and Mansfield passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on December 11. 1952, he was a loving son of Dr. John B. MacDonald of Booth Bay Harbor, Maine and the late Margret E. (Loch) MacDonald.

Alex and his family moved to the United States when he was five years old, and settled in Foxboro where he grew up. He was a graduate of the Newman Preparatory School in Boston, and furthered his studies graduating from the Southeastern Technical School and attending Northeastern University.

Prior to retiring, Mr. MacDonald had been employed as an Engineering Technician at SIE Computer Solutions in Brockton and previously with a career that spanned twenty years at Analog Devices in Norwood.

Alex had made his home in Attleboro for the past several months and was a former longtime resident of Foxboro and Mansfield. He was a former member of the Foxboro Jaycee’s and while living in Mansfield, coached soccer and basketball.

He loved spending time with his adoring children, and was thrilled with the family addition of his granddaughter. Mr. MacDonald was loyal to his Scottish Heritage and was always there to lend others a helping hand.

Alex enjoyed outdoor activities and was considered quite knowledgeable on the subject of history and science. His hobbies included collecting Lionel Trains, bicycling and being a lifetime diehard fan of the New England Patriots.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his devoted children Amy J. Thornton and her husband Jeremy of Cumberland, RI, Tammy R. MacDonald and her boyfriend Jay of Mansfield, Christy A. MacDonald of Mansfield and David A. MacDonald of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Addison Thornton. He was the brother of Laura MacDonald, Margret Dalton, Neil MacDonald, Ian MacDonald, George MacDonald and Eric MacDonald, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, August 17th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will be private.
