LEICESTER: Geraldine (Beando) Shambo, passed away on Saturday, August 11, surrounded by her loving family. Geraldine (Gerry), was born in Worcester, the daughter of Gerald C. and Margaret (Maddalena) Beando. At age 7, she moved to Spencer where her mother owned and operated the Ivy Shop. She graduated from David Prouty High School and later, Cardinal Cushing College. Geraldine spent her summers at Stiles Lake in Leicester starting in 1945, later building a home of her own there in 1969.
Gerry loved to travel the world; she visited France, Rome, Scotland, Mexico, Peru, New York City, and Washington D.C, some of which with her nieces and nephews. A modern woman, Gerry began her professional career in banking. Briefly, Gerry returned to the Ivy Shop to assist her mother. Later, she grew through the ranks at Guaranty Bank and Trust through mergers, eventually retiring as Vice President of Retail Banking. Her interests included golfing, trying new recipes, and tending to her garden. Gerry also raised two beagles, Molly and Penny.
Gerry leaves behind her loving husband, best friend, and caregiver, Gregory Shambo. She also leaves behind her brother William Beando, his wife Joan (Granger) Beando, her nieces and nephews, Michael and Jeannine (Beando) Maynard, Phillip and Tracy (Regal) Beando, Barbara (Beando) Knight, Stephen Beando, and Bryan Beando, as well as several great-nieces and nephews who will miss making “Easter Pizza” with her. Gerry especially treasured spending time with her family, sharing laughs and meals by Stiles Lake.
Gerry's funeral will be held on Friday, August 17th, from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Pius X Church, 1153 Main St., Leicester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are Thursday, August 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
