Obituary

Alice (Wells) Erickson of Marlborough, MA, formerly South Yarmouth, MA and Nantucket Island, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2018 at the age of 94.

She was the wife of the late Carl A. Erickson and is survived by her two children Karla Erickson of Bolton, MA and Kurt Erickson of Altoona, WI, four grandchildren Jared and Linnea Turner of Bolton, Kjersten and Kristian Erickson of Altoona. She was the daughter of the late Arthur K. Wells and Edith (Lovewell) Wells and sister to the late Arthur (Ken) K. Wells, Jr, John (Jack) B. Wells (her twin brother), and Peter T. Wells. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Raised in Wellesley, MA, she graduated from Wellesley High School, class of 1941. She went on to study Psychology at Mary Washington College in Virginia. After college Alice pursued careers in modeling, design and floral arrangement. Alice and Carl initially settled on the shores of Lake Cochituate in Framingham before moving to Nantucket Island where she operated the Corner House and started her own florist business in her home. Alice later managed the Flower and Garden shops of Marine Home Center for many years and in 1968 purchased the Skipper Restaurant where she had waited tables as a college student during the summer.
She was very active in the Nantucket Garden Club, and the Garden Club of Yarmouth after moving to Cape Cod, as well as a member of the Bass River Yacht Club.

Alice was devoted to family and friends, always a ready hostess. Her happiest times were those spent in her own gardens, on the beach, or out sailing, all with her faithful dogs as her companion.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hearthstone Memory Care at Marlborough for the loving care they provided for the past two years, and for the gentle support of Kindred Hospice.

A celebration of Alice’s life will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills, 309 Washington St, (Rt 16) Wellesley. MA. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
