Obituary

Michael V. “Mike” Petroni, of Medford, died Monday, August 6th. He was 97. Born in Amesbury, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Dora (Archadiangio) Petroni.

Michael was a dedicated member of the VFW of Medford, American Legion Post 45 and the Italian American War Veteran Association. Mike was actively involved in planning the Medford Memorial Day parade and was a recipient of the Medford Key of the City award. He was stationed in Northern Africa, Morocco and Italy during WWII and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal.

When Michael was not participating in his club activities he loved to gamble. Playing cards, blackjack and Bingo were his favorite and it was guaranteed that he would win. Gardening came naturally leaving his yard to look beautiful. No matter the size of the project he could fix anything, he was only a phone call away.

Michael was the beloved husband of the late Isabelle “Lena” (Cutrone) Petroni. He was the devoted father of Dolores Callahan and her husband Joseph, Laura Vasquez and her husband Tony, and Michele Fitzsimmons and her husband Robert. The loving grandfather of Robert Jr., Thomas, Robin, Joseph, Jeffrey and Jordan. Loving great-grandfather of Charles, Noah and Riley. Mike also leaves behind his loving four legged friend Lancer.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday, August 11th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 to 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Michael’s name to the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, David James Hospice Wing, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730.
