Obituary

W.L. Futch, 77, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, August 4, 2018, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Fitzgerald Church of God with the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Futch was born November 26, 1940, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Wiley Franklin & Lillie Ruth Mock Futch. He worked for the City of Fitzgerald for 48 ½ years in Public Works and as Cemetery Sexton at Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Futch loved saltwater fishing as well as gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Fitzgerald Church of God.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Agnes Futch of Fitzgerald; his children: Jimmy Futch of Hogansville, Sherry Futch of South Carolina, Kim Taylor of Fitzgerald, and Sabrina & Robert Hopwood of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Brandon Hunter of South Carolina, his “Darlin’”, Hailie Taylor of Fitzgerald, his “Buddy”, Jordan Taylor of Fitzgerald, Logan Futch of Abbeville, and his “Little Meanness”, Gavin Shelton of Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren: Christian Hunter and Madilyn Hunter; three sisters: Marie Smith of Orlando, Florida, Carolyn Miller of Douglas and Nellie Purvis of Douglas; and two brothers, John Futch of Fitzgerald and Robert Futch of Douglas. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Watkins and Anne Palmer and two brothers, Eddie Futch and Gene Futch.
