…WWII Veteran and Watertown Businessman; 91
TEWKSBURY - Herbert A. Perkins, age 91, a WWII Navy Veteran, A.F. & A.M. Freemason and retired Watertown businessman, died Thursday, August 2, at D’Youville Nursing Center. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Ann (Long) Perkins, with whom he celebrated a seventy-first wedding anniversary this past February 2nd.
“Herb” was born in Cambridge in November 1926, a son of the late Alonzo and Elsie (Compton) Perkins, and raised in Watertown. He had resided in Tewksbury since 1960.
During WWII, Herb enlisted into the U.S. Navy, and served in both the Pacific and European War Theaters. He served as a Carpenter’s Mate, 3c, aboard the USS Rigel, the USS Edmond Mallet, and the USS Phineas Winsor, and earned the Asiatic-Pacific, American Area, European-African, and Victory Medals.
Following his honorable discharge, he became a service station owner, and purchased Your Corner Arco in Watertown, which he successfully operated for over 30 years.
He was a member of the Pequossette A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge in Watertown, MA.
Besides his wife, he leaves three children, Daniel H. and his wife Laura (Cote) Perkins of Tewksbury, David P. and his wife Donna (Harland) Perkins of Ashland, and Sharon A. and her husband Igor Mendeleyev of Westwood; four grandchildren, Daniel H. Perkins Jr. of Tewksbury, Michael P. Perkins of No. Reading, Christopher Perkins of Cambridge, and Emily Perkins of Washington, DC; two great granddaughters, Samantha and Caitlin; a great great grandson, Christopher Kelly Jr.; and was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Paddock and brothers, Daniel J Perkins and Robert Perkins.
Visiting hours Monday, Aug. 6, from 3:30 until 6:30 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950.
