FALL RIVER – Jose R. Barreira, age 87, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2018 at Country Gardens Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria do Espirito Santo (Moniz) Barreira. Born in Ponta Graça, São Miguel, Açores, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria (Franco) Lourenco.
Jose is survived by his children Leonor Roias of Fall River, Gabriela Amaral of Açores, Jose Manuel Barreira of Somerset, Liberal Roias of Açores, Luis Barreira of Açores, Graça Raposo of Fall River, Renato Roias of Açores and Ana Sousa of Fall River; siblings Antonio & Lourdes Barreira both of Açores; 24 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Cristiano, Odilia, Conçeicão, Angelina & Estrella Barreira.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Saturday here at 7:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Espirito Santo Church at 9 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours on Friday from 5-8 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
