Obituary

Ann G. (Gorka) Zajac, 78, of New Bedford died Saturday July 21, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Michael C. Zajac, who passed away on April 27, 2018.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Alberski) Gorka, she lived in New Bedford all her life. She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.

Ann chose to completely devote her life to her husband of 56 years, children, and grandchildren. She graduated from Bridgewater State University with a degree in Elementary Education and knew that “if you educate a woman, you educate an entire family.” Nana’s home revolved around the children in her life and encouraged them all to “have both roots and wings.” She would lovingly share her gift of creativity with all who knew her.

Survivors include two sons, Atty. Mark Zajac of New Bedford and Joseph Zajac and his wife Kerry of East Freetown; two daughters, Mary Jane Couillard and her husband Rick of Old Orchard Beach, ME and Martha Schwartz of Dartmouth; a brother, Thomas Gorka; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Ventura, Matthew Couillard, Samantha Couillard, Cara Zajac, Michael Zajac, Kevin Zajac, Colleen Zajac, Daniel Zajac, Hannah Schwartz and William Schwartz; a great-granddaughter, Rosemary Ventura; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Laura Olson, and her sister, Janet Waclawik.

Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 30 at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church, North Dartmouth. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday July 29 from 2-5 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
