Obituary

Troy Ira Verrett, Ph. D., 72, passed away on July 20, 2018 surrounded by his family at his home in Camarillo, CA.
Born in Naples, Texas on April 19, 1946, Troy moved to California with his family and graduated of Oxnard High School. He later attended and graduated from Ventura Community College, Cal Lutheran University, and the University of La Verne.
On September 25, 1971, he entered into Holy Matrimony with Ms. Charlene Tyson of Compton, CA. The newlywed couple began their life together in the City of Oxnard, CA and ultimately relocated to the City of Camarillo, where they have since resided.
In 1998, Troy completed his studies earning his Doctorate in Religion and Theology from St. Charles University.
Troy established a long career in Human Resources and Personnel Management with The U.S. Federal Government. He was a Personnel Management Specialist for The Battalion Construction Center in Port Hueneme, the Naval Weapons Engineering Station, and the Army Core of Engineers in Los Angeles. He was the Chief Labor Relations Officer for the U.S. Air Force and the Head of Labor and Employee Relations in The Defense Logistics Dept. as well as Agency Advisor to the Commander. Troy retired in April of 2012, as the Chief Advocate and Employee Relations Manager for The Los Angeles Community College District. Upon his retirement from Governmental service, Troy was awarded The Meritorious Civilian Award for his extensive service in Government.
Having been an absolute and consummate intellectual, head buried among the leaflet pages of a chapter, Troy would never be found too far away from a book; he loved to read to learn new things, and to study to stimulate his mind. He possessed a great love for sports, and old Western movies, had a strong Entrepreneurial drive, a keen eye for rare collectible items, and was an avid Biblical scholar.
Troy accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the tender age of 14. He formerly served as Pastor of The Always Abounding Ministry in Los Angeles, CA as well as an Associate Pastor for several church fellowships. He was a current member of The Cottonwood Church of Los Alamitos, CA and had also been an active member of Ekklesia Christian Outreach in Los Angeles, CA. Troy spent much of his early life worshipping at the Triedstone Church of God In Christ in Oxnard, and also worshipped with his family at The Community Bible Mission Church in Oxnard.
Troy was described as thoughtful, gentle, generous, loving, and kind by his family and friends. His wife yet proclaims her unfailing love for him, and often speaks about one of her most treasured possessions...the love letters and poems that he composed for her during their courtship.
Troy was preceded in death by his father, Pastor Alphonse Verrett, and leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of nearly 47 years, Charlene; his dear mother, Ira Mae Verrett; two sisters, Alveda Verrett and Darlene Thompson, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, God children, and a host of cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service to he held Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11a.m. at the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME, 757 E. Main Street Ventura, CA 93001. Interment will then immediately follow in The Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, CA 90301.
