Obituary

Mildred A.(Basile) Amicangelo, of Medford, formerly of Boston's North End, died Friday, July 13th. She was 101. Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Santina (Gattinella) Basile.

Mildred enjoyed cooking for her family, friends and the whole neighborhood. She was famous for her homemade gravy, pizza, eggplant and especially her gnocchi. When Mildred was not cooking she loved to knit afghan blankets, and made sure everyone received one.

She was a talented piano player, playing since the age of three. She would later meet the love of her life Vincent in Music School. During her stay in the nursing home there was not one day that she did not play the piano, you could hear her melodies flowing throughout the halls.

Mildred loved being a school teacher. She enjoyed working with children, she made sure that all of her students strived to do their best and that each and every one of them knew that they were unique. She made everlasting relationships with her students, and still up to this day some of her former students would stop by to visit her.

Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Vincent Amicangelo. She was the devoted mother of Vincent "Vince Michaels" Amicangelo, Jr. of Medford and his loving companion Andrea Porter of Methuen, and the late Andrew Amicangelo and his surviving wife Judy of Los Angeles, California, and the late Paul Amicangelo. Loving grandmother of Andrew and Joseph Amicangelo of Los Angeles, California. Loving great-grandmother of Andrew Amicangelo IV. Dear sister of Rose Quarato of Winthrop. Caring aunt to John and Patti Quarato of Winthrop.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday, July 20th at 8:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Leonard Church, Hanover St., Boston, at 9:45 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Mildred's name to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 1 Bridge St., Suite 102, Newton, MA 02458.
