Obituary

James Allen “Jimmy” Paulk, 77, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Ocilla United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jay Roberson, the Rev. Richard Soper and the Rev. Jim Kenney officiating. Joe Worthington will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Paulk was born September 5, 1940, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Emory G. & Evelyn Megahee Paulk. He was a 1958 graduate of Irwin County High School. He walked on at Georgia Tech and earned a scholarship to play football. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Georgia and was a member of PHI Kappa PHI at the Terry College of Business at UGA. Following graduation, he worked for the IRS in Atlanta. He returned to Ocilla and worked for Quinney & Meeks CPA, before opening his own business. For nearly 50 years he operated James A. Paulk CPA, with offices in Ocilla and Moultrie. He was a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Paulk was a longtime member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer and as a member of the administrative board. He assisted with church accounting for many years. He enjoyed playing golf as well as Canasta once a week with his brothers and sisters-in-law. Mr. Paulk was a perfectionist whether he was working or playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Faye Harper Paulk of Ocilla; a son: James C. “Jim” Paulk of Ocilla; a granddaughter, Ella Paulk and a brother Bobby Paulk & Susan of Ocilla. Several nieces and nephews also survive along with a brother-in-law: Larry & Deena Harper and a sister-in-law: Melba Jean & Bobby Metts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Paulk; his mother-in-law, Minnie Irene Morris Harper and father-in-law, Theo Harper.
