Michael J. Martorana, age 84, of Malden, passed away suddenly on July 10, 2018 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Noreen (Slattery) Martorana. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Michael A. and Isabelle (Vechia) Martorana.
He was raised in Medford and growing up he worked as a Boston Herald newsboy in Medford Square. He was a graduate of Medford High School. A Marine Corps. veteran, Mr. Martorana was employed with G.E. in the aircraft engineering dept. for many years before joining New England Telephone/Verizon, where he worked as a cable splicer for over 30 years.
In his spare time, Michael loved to dance, and could be found at Polcari’s “Jukebox” dancing on Friday nights. He kept fit by working out at the Planet Fitness on Eastern Ave. in Malden. He loved the Boston Red Sox and was an avid reader of the Boston Herald. His family was the most important thing to him, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Papa Guido”.
He is survived by his son Christopher M. Martorana and his wife Lisa of Malden, Michael F. Martorana of Billerica. He was the dear brother of Josie Luongo, Anna, Albert and Frank Martorana, and the late Guy Martorana, and the devoted Papa Guido of Mathew, Nicholas and his wife Jenna, Stephanie, Ashley and Luca Martorana, and the great-grandfather of Grace and Jacob Martorana.
Funeral from the AJ Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main St., Malden on Friday July 13th at 9AM followed by a funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10AM . Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Thurs from 4-8PM. Interment Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
