Obituary

Worcester - Joanne C. (Karbowski) Morrissey, 84, of Worcester passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 in Christopher House, Worcester. Her husband Robert D. "Butch" Morrissey died in 2003. She is survived by her children, Mary Therese Morrissey of Evanston, IL, Carroll M. Primomo and her husband Gene of Delmar, NY, Thomas F. Morrissey and Sue Morello of Barre, Patricia Morrissey of Maine and Bernadette M. Golas and her husband Steven of Boylston; four grandchildren, Katelyn, Tricia and Michelle all of Delmar, NY and Brittany of Boylston; one great grandchild, Roselyn Mae; a sister Charlotte Shilalie of Manchester, NH and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Eddie and John Karbowski, Louise Siminski, Jane Ciborowski, Hedwig Kopcinski, and Theresa Witkowski. She was born in Worcester a daughter of John and Julia (Karczmarczyk) Karbowski.

She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1952 and received her Bachelor's Degree from Anna Maria College in 1956. Miss Joanne taught at St. Mary's School for more than 25 years first as an Elementary and later Junior High School teacher. She then retired from St. Mary's Junior High School in the late 1970's. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and their Woman's Guild. During her retirement, along with her late husband, she could be found working and supporting the many Guild and St. Mary's Booster events including working the Bingo games. She and Butch loved to play cards with her sisters and later taught their grandchildren to play Scat. She was an avid reader and loved the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle. She and Butch were known for getting their grandchildren to nap by taking them on car rides, and if they were lucky a stop at Klem's for a treat.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 with a Memorial Mass at 11:30 a.m., in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., is assisting the family with arrangements.
