Robert J. Tompkins, Sr., 85, of Derry, NH, passed away Friday June 22, 2018 in Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born in Methuen, MA on October 3, 1932, a son of the late Willard and Maybelle (Cowburn) Tompkins. He had been a resident of Derry since 1977, formerly living in Methuen, MA. Robert was a graduate of Edward F. Searles High School, Methuen, MA, Class of 1950. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Robert was the vice president of W.A. Tompkins Co. in Danvers, MA. Robert’s greatest joy was the love of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (O'Neill) Tompkins of Derry; one daughter, Randi Lee Mayfield of Methuen; two sons, Robert Tompkins, Jr. of Derry, and Mark Tompkins and his wife Diana of Derry; his loving grandchildren, Melissa, Brandon and his wife Darice, Emily, Allie, Robbie III, Maryanne, Danielle, and Keenan; three great grandchildren, Dominic, Riley and Briella; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Arvard Tompkins in 2015.
Following cremation, memorial calling hours were held on Tuesday, June 26th from 4 – 7 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Private burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rockingham VNA Hospice, 137 Epping Rd, Exeter, NH 03833.
