New Bedford – Dorothy Sylvia, age 88, passed away on June 18, 2018 at home. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Duarte) Silvia.
Dorothy had worked as a nurse’s aide at Our Lady’s Haven Nursing Home, as well as a medical secretary at St. Luke’s Hospital.
She is survived by her children, Jacqueline “Jackie” Kay-Laporte, John P. Sylvia III “Jay”, Jeffrey S. Sylvia and Jody Santos; grandchildren, Kerri Grey, Ryan Kay, Jenna Pereira, Christopher Sylvia, Corey Sylvia, Michael Butcher, Ashley Souza, Tyler Santos and Jade Gibbons; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Dorothy’s services were private.
