Roger Raymond Kunz passed away on June 15, 2018 in Ventura, CA following a lengthy battle with prostate cancer, Parkinson's Disease and diabetes. Roger was born in Sheboygan, WI on April 4, 1933. He was pre-deceased by parents Fred and Minnie Kunz, brother Robert Kunz and sisters Hildegard Schneider and Norma Page.
Roger graduated from North Sheboygan High School. He moved to California in 1952. Trained as an engineer, Roger worked for Boeing in the early days of the space program.
After retiring from Boeing, he and his family moved to Mariposa, CA where Roger developed and managed a small residential compound, providing housing to seasonal workers at Yosemite National Park. Roger later moved to Altus, AR where he made new friends and was able to follow his passion for flying, primarily in home-built aircraft.
In November of 2015 Roger returned to California for health reasons. Under the care of niece Lynne (and Bob) Klamser Roger moved into the Palms Assisted Living facility in Ventura. Within a year, he was selected by the residents to serve as the chairman of the Residents Council, interacting with the facility and outside entities on behalf of his fellow residents. Shortly before his death, he followed friends and relocated to the Ventura Townehouse, where a staff member, upon hearing of his death, offered a real testimonial to Roger's character, saying "no matter how he was feeling, he always brightened the room when he came in."
Just weeks before his death, Roger made the most important decision of his life, receiving Jesus Christ as his savior.
Roger is survived by his former wife Patricia (Conner) Kunz, his sons Raymond (wife Jeanie), Ronald (wife Dollie) and Richard (wife Lori), six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 17, 2018 in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
