Leonor M. Luiz , 95, of Dartmouth died June 12, 2018 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home.
Miss Luiz was born in New Bedford, MA the daughter of the late Guilherme M. and Maria (Maciel) Luiz. She lived in New Bedford before moving to Dartmouth. She cherished her summer home at Perryville, Fairhaven, MA and especially the five generations of neighbors she saw as extended family.
Leonor was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, New Bedford, MA.
Miss Luiz was formerly employed at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School and the New Bedford Public Schools. She attended Framingham State University and Boston University. She was inducted into the GNBRVTHS Hall of Fame.
Leonor was dedicated to her family, church and community. She gave freely of her time and talents to her church through work with CCD, Catholic Charities Appeal, Woman’s Club, Building Fund, CYO, etc. She was a contributing member of civic organizations including Delta Kappa Gamma, Diocesan Catholic Women’s Guild, and Portuguese Educational Society.
She was the sister of Laura de Freitas, Beatriz L. Lopes, Bessie Plouffe, Isabel Quadros-Smith, Gregorio M. Luiz, Mary T. Luiz and Olivia M. Luiz.
She survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday, June 15th at 9:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 14th from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 230 Bonney Street, New Bedford, MA 02744.
