Dorothy E. McCann
Dateline: Foxborough, MA

Dorothy E. “Dot” McCann, a lifelong resident of Foxborough, Born May 26, 1925 passed away peacefully on June 10, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Russell F. McCann, Sr. Devoted mother of Russell F. McCann, Jr. of North Hampton, NH, and his wife Marcy, sister of Elwood H. Morse, Jr. of Foxborough and his fiancée, Shirley Chicoine. Grammy to her only grandson, Ryan Russell McCann of Portsmouth, NH.

Dot was a graduate of Foxborough High School and the New England Conservatory of Music; she was a talented artist, and an accomplished pianist and organist. She enjoyed tending to her colorful and well-represented garden and lavished attention on the family’s dogs. One stray, Molly, wandered into the yard one afternoon, and would stay to enjoy a long life with Dot and Russ at home for years to come.

Dot began her career at the Foxboro Company until her marriage in 1947. Later on, her warm smile would welcome years of elementary school students to the Lewis School daily, where she worked as a secretary until her retirement. Young children brought great joy to Dot and she thoroughly enjoyed her job working with and helping students and teachers alike.

Summers were spent enjoying their lakeside summerhouse in Wolfeboro, NH and excursions to the eastern provinces of Canada. Later in life, after Dot’s grandson was born in California, she and Russ Sr. would head west where she was able to expand her travel experiences to many of the bordering states; including Washington and Arizona, with additional travel to British Columbia. Vancouver’s brilliant Butchart gardens a celebratory highlight. The immediate family was fortunate to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary celebration on an extended cruise to Europe; visiting and experiencing England, Ireland, France, Scotland, and Wales. Other oversees excursions followed, the highlight of which was time spent in Amman, Jordan with treasured friends, and Vienna, Austria. Following her son’s return to the East Coast, Gram became an avid supporter of her grandson’s passion for swimming, attending every swim meet available to her. Celebrating her grandson’s accomplishments was first most on her agenda, and the Seacoast of New Hampshire became a favorite destination.

Prayer services and internment will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 1:30 P.M. at the North Purchase Cemetery, 825 North Main St., Attleboro.
