FALL RIVER – Alice R. Arruda, 95 of Fall River, passed away peacefully at Sarah Brayton Nursing Home after a short illness on Saturday, June 9, 2018. She was the wife of the late Manuel R. Arruda.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late James & Maria (Borges) Rego. Alice was also the sister of the late James Rego Jr.
Alice graduated from Durfee High School in 1940 and began her 44 year career as a hairdresser. Alice retired in 1969 to begin her second career of playing golf. She was one of the oldest members at Montaup Country Club, where she made many dear life-long friends. Alice enjoyed playing cards with the “girls” at Point Gloria. She was a longtime member of the Friends of St. Mary’s, and volunteered at St. Anne’s Hospital Gift Shop.
Alice is survived by her niece & godchild: Margaret Arruda Hounsell (husband Michael) and son Timothy of Swansea.
Family & friends are invited to attend Alice’s funeral mass on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. in St. Anne’s Church Shrine, So. Main St. Interment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Fall River. www.rogersfuneral.com.
