Obituary

Robert E. Stevens, Sr., 84, of Hunter Avenue, Johnston, died Saturday, June 9, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Carole (Dodge) Stevens. They had been married for 39 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Henry and Phyllis (Booth) Stevens. He had lived in North Providence, before moving to Johnston in 2016. Bob worked in the maintenance department for Benny’s for 13 years before retiring in 1998. He had also worked for several area textile mills around the state.
He played Fast Pitch Softball in the early fifties in the Providence Industrial Softball League and later pitched for five years in the Old Providence Amateur Baseball League.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert E. Stevens, Jr. of Woonsocket, his daughters: Denise Dawn Stevens of West Warwick, Shelley Lange of Smithfield, Christena Murphy of Burrillville, two stepchildren: James Tomlinson of Holly Springs, NC and Barbara Tomlinson of Johnston, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and his siblings: Dorothy Uttley of North Providence and Hope Caffeso of Johnston. He was the brother of the late John E. and Henry Stevens and Gladys Turronis.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:30am in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Johnston. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm.
