Normand A. Parent, 66, of Woonsocket died Wednesday May 30, 2018 at The Holiday in Manville.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Raymond and Therese (Leduc) Parent. He was raised in Manville and attended St. James School. He graduated from Rhode Island Vocational Technical High School in Providence in 1969. He later earned his degrees from DeVry Institute in Chicago and Johnson & Wales University.
Normand was a longtime communicant of St. James Parish. He was a member of the choir and gave of his time in many parish activities including the St. James carnival. Normand both worked and volunteered for many years for the Fr. Marot CYO Center of Northern Rhode Island. Normand also volunteered at Kennedy Manor where he resided.
Normand worked in the food service industry as a cook for Baked & Served New England, Scramblers in East Greenwich and Sodexho Corp.
In his earlier years he played basketball for St. James and was in Boy Scouts. He enjoyed movies and reading. Normand was a very helpful person and was always ready and willing to give of his time and talents.
He is survived by two daughters Nicole Harney and Kristen Morey of Burrillville and two grandchildren Caitlin and Megan Harney. He was the brother of the late Richard Parent and Doris Parent. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Lucille Parent of Burrillville, a niece and nephew Michelle Laney and Gregg Parent and great-nephews Britton, Dustin and Hunter and a great-niece Payton. He is also survived by his cousin, caregiver and friend Denise Renaud and her husband Armand (Joe) of Manville.
His mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday June 13, 2018 at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St. Manville. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross RI Chapter 105 Gano St. Providence, RI. 02906. Arrangements are by the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central St. Manville.
