PORTLAND- Nevenka Simanic, age 63, went to sleep in the presence of the Lord on June 7, 2018 after a brave battle with cancer.
She was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia on Aug. 10, 1954, a daughter of Milenko and Koviljka (Samardzija) Simanic.
In 2003 she moved with her daughter to the United States to pursue a happier life.
She was an accomplished tailor and recently worked for designer Jill McGowan.
Nevenka will always be remembered as loving mother who sacrificed greatly to ensure that her daughter lived a better life in this country. She was proud to live in Maine and truly made Maine their new home.
She was an active member of her church and sang in the church choir.
She is predeceased by her parents and her brother- Dragan.
Nevenka is survived by her daughter- Aleksandra Derikonja of Portland and her boyfriend Dobrivoje; sisters- Milka and Slavica of Bosnia; her sister in law- Svjetlana; nephews- Aleksandar and Milan; and niece- Tatjana.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday June 9 at 10 AM at St. Demetrios Serbian Orthodox Church, 35 Adams St., Biddeford. Burial will follow at St. Demetrios Hellenic Orthodox Cemetery in Biddeford.
