Obituary

Mary Julia (Baker) Karnes, a Medford resident for over 50 years, and formerly of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, June 4th. She was 86.

Born and raised in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Josef and Anna (Zuise) Baker, and attended local schools. After high school, Mary attended the Cambridge City Hospital Nursing School and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. She proudly served her country during the Vietnam War. Following her honorable discharge in 1958, Mary worked as a Registered Nurse in the operating room for the Cambridge City Hospital until her retirement.

Mary was the loving mother of Judith, Wayne and Lynn Karnes, all of Medford, and the late Debra Sterling, who passed away in 2013. She was the devoted grandmother of eight and the devoted great grandmother of seven.

A funeral service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Thursday, June 14th at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with interment and military honors at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
