Freetown– George A. Pitta, of East Freetown , passed away on May 31, 2018 at home. He was the beloved husband of Eulalia S. (Raposo) Pitta of East Freetown, and son of the late Francisco A. Pita and Laura Soares (DeBrito) Pita.
He was born in Fuchal, Madeira, Portugal, and was one of the first of 8 siblings to come to the United States. George worked for the Water Department in the City of New Bedford until his retirement.
Survivors include; his wife, Eulalia; Daughter: Lisa Marie Pitta and her wife Carol T. Souza; Siblings: Mary Pereira, Daniel Pita, Fernando Pita, Frank Pitta, Emanuel Pita and Elsie Kalisz. He was predeceased by brother Joseph Pitta.
George’s visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with a service to begin at 11:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Rural Cemetery immediately after the service. Arrangements placed in the care Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
