Virginia Fernandes Martins, 84, of New Bedford died Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, daughter of the late Antonio and Luiza (Fernandes) Martins, she lived in Brava before moving to New Bedford in 1991.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Virginia was a member of the Bisca Tournament Club.
She is survived by six children, Francisco Fernandes DePina, Maria Tavares, Alberto Martins, Cisaltina Martins, Luiza Viera, all of New Bedford, and Antonio DePina of Italy; her sister, Rosa Fernandes Martins of Brava, Cape Verde; 35 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Victoria Fernandes DePina and her sisters, Maria Fernandes Martins and Graca Fernandes Martins.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday June 2, 2018 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
