WAYLAND: Emanuel “Manny” Salos, 93, died on Monday, May 28, 2018 with his loving and devoted family by his side at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
He was born in Natick on December 19, 1924 the son of the late Nicholas Salos and Vasilika (Filides) Salos.
Manny is survived by the love of his life of 70 years, Alice D. (Lewis) Salos of Wayland, born and raised in Framingham. Beloved father of Kathryn Ann Salos of Roswell, GA. Cherished grandfather of Nicholas Beale, PhD and his wife Sarah Hamby of Norman, OK and Tiffany Buker and her husband Wayne Buker of Woodstock, GA. Adored uncle of many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Helen Lewis of Bellmawr NJ.
Manny and Alice have called Wayland their home for over 50 years. Manny spent his formative years in Natick. He received his BS in Chemistry from Northeastern University and continued his education in the field of Business at Boston University and Harvard University.
He began his career as Chairman at Chemical Rubber in Beacon, NY. He then became the Chief Chemist at Victor Belata in Easton, PA. For many years, he was the Vice President of Haartz Mason of Watertown-Cambridge and was also affiliated with Archer Rubber in Milford. Manny, with two partners, then became Founder and President of Applied Polymers of Milford for many years, before retiring.
Manny was a member of the American Chemical Society, the New York Chemical Society, an active member of the Northeastern Alumni Association, and the school's chemical society.
Both he and Alice were active and dedicated volunteers for Wayside Hospice and the Group Parmenter Health Care in Wayland. They spent countless hours raising awareness and funds for the organization. They have been longtime active communicants of St. Ann Parish in Wayland.
Manny and Alice enjoyed traveling the world, which included experiencing the amazing adventure of going from West Germany to East Germany through "Check Point Charlie" and continuing into Russia. They spent their 50th wedding anniversary exploring Alaska.
They spent many wonderful hours together learning about and collecting Early American antiques.
They have enjoyed many summers in their home in Chatham with family and friends, who were the center of their lives, for the past forty years.
At the request of his family, there will be no funeral home visitations.
Family and friends are invited to go directly to his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Ann Church, 134 Cochituate Rd (Rte. 27), Wayland. The Mass will be celebrated by a longtime friend, Rev. Peter Gelfer of the order of St. John of God Ministry in California.
Private family interment will be held in the Salos family lot in Seaside Cemetery in Chatham.
In lieu of flowers his family kindly suggests that memorial donations in Manny’s memory be sent to the Parmenter Foundation, 260 Boston Post Road, Unit #5, Wayland, MA 01778 requesting it to be applied, exclusively, for the funding of "unfunded beds" in the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice residence in Wayland.
