Obituary

Alford Leroy Jeffrey, Sr., a life-long resident of Somerville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27th at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was 88.

Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Jacob N. and Luccile (Merrill) Jeffrey, and attended local schools. Alford had a long career serving in the United States Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. After his retirement and honorable discharge, he worked and retired from R.H. Donnelley Corp. After that retirement he continued to work at Johnnies Foodmaster and then CVS. He spent much of his time with family and friends.

Alford was the beloved husband of the late Jacqueline (McLaren) Jeffrey, who passed away in 2013. Together they shared fifty-six years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Lori Pennel of Medford, Alford L. Jeffrey, Jr. of Waltham, and Jacqueline Jeffrey of Fitchburg. Alford was the loving grandfather of Paul Millett and his wife Diana, and the loving great grandfather of Elsie Millett, all of Dracut. He was the dear brother of Florence Wells of Derry, New Hampshire, and the dear brother-in-law of Buz Donnell and his fiancée Debbie DiGregorio of Wakefield. Alford was the cherished uncle of Cheryl Leatham of Shrewsbury, and is also survived by many other loving nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 31st at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford from 4 through 8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. At the request of the family, funeral services and interment will be held privately.
