Obituary

Helen Marie (Hayes) Nagle, age 84, a 46-year resident of Winchester, passed away on April 26, 2018. She was the beloved wife for 31 years of the late James G. Nagle, until his passing in 1999.

Born in Salem, MA, Helen was the daughter of the late Thomas Francis and Sara Marie (Walsh) Hayes. She was raised and educated in Salem, graduating from Salem High School and Salem Teachers College. She received her Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University.

Mrs. Nagle was a teacher at Salem and subsequently, Winchester High School, where she taught Business Education. In her spare time, Helen could be found volunteering for the Winton Club and the Jenks Center. She was also a member of the Winchester Garden Club and the Winchester Boat Club. Helen was a highly skilled knitter and loved to cook for her family and friends.

Helen and her husband, Jim, who was an FBI agent, enjoyed their time together, particularly summers at Lake Winnipesaukee. Helen also delighted in spending time with her groups of women friends. For over 50 years, Helen looked forward to her monthly lunches with her childhood friends from Salem. Later in life, she enjoyed spending time with her group of friends from Winchester, the “Cheap-Eats Club”, where the ladies scouted out and frequented local, inexpensive restaurants to eat and socialize. Helen also loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Nora A. Nagle and her husband Jeffrey A. Shubrooks of Boston, Maura B. Nagle of Boston and James G. Nagle, Jr. of Moultonborough, NH, and her grandchildren: James Shubrooks, Kailey Nagle and Samantha Nagle. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Monday, April 30 from 4-7PM, and again on Tuesday, May 1 at 9AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester, at 10AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, 103 Vision Way, Bloomfield, CT 06002. www.fidelco.org.
