Obituary

James E. Harwood, 96, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth after a long period of declining health. He was the loving husband of the late Louise B. (Justley) Harwood, to whom he was married for 75 years.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Wilson) Harwood. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation metalsmith. After the war, he returned to New Bedford and spent the rest of his life in this area. He was employed by Milhench, Inc. as a sheet metal worker until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church.
Jim loved playing the piano. He played by ear, especially music from the big band era, and he took requests. He loved to work in the yard, and had many beautiful flower gardens. He loved babies and dogs. And he made a great clamboil.
Jim is survived by his daughters Barbara Pacheco and her husband David, and Jane Sheehan and her husband Richard; his son James and his wife Michelle; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Arthur, and his grandson Richard Sheehan.
