FALL RIVER – João Afonso Medeiros, age 89 of Fall River, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Catholic Memorial Home with his loving family by his side. Born in Santo Antonio, Alem Capelas, São Miguel, Açores, he was the beloved husband of Germana (Viveiros) Medeiros and the son of the late Antonio & Gilherma (Da Silva) Medeiros. Prior to retiring, João worked as a construction laborer for Narragansett Improvement Corp.
He was a parishioner of Espirito Santo Church and a member of its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Our Lady of Light Band Club and loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of Fall River, he is survived by his two sons: Tony Medeiros (wife Philomena) of Swansea and Paul S. Medeiros (wife Lisa) of Bristol, RI; his sister: Marta Medeiros of Canada; his two granddaughters: Vanessa & Julia Medeiros; many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Antonio, Eduardo, Gualter, Ernesto, Guilherme, Jose & Lydia Medeiros.

His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 7:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Espirito Santo Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
