Irving Lima, 77

Dateline: Norton, MA

Irving Lima, age 77, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Donna Lee (Collins) Lima, retired special education teacher and assistant principal at the J.C. Solmonese Elementary School in Norton.

Born in Taunton, MA on December 30, 1940, he was a loving son of the late John J. and Virginia (Rose) Lima.

Irv grew up and was educated in Taunton. As a teenager, he worked on his uncle Tony’s farm in Dighton and at Reed & Barton in Taunton. Prior to retiring, he had worked in the shipping and receiving department at the American Insulated Panel Co. in Taunton and was previously employed at Low Temp Engineering in Norton. His other places of employment were at FB Rogers in Taunton, Rossmoor Silver Co. in Taunton and for many years as a bartender at Ace Nickels in Taunton.

Irv loved spending time with his family, cooking for his wife and traveling. He was an avid New England sports fan, an ardent fisherman, and had a “sweet tooth” for scratch tickets, slot machines and dog racing. He had made his home in Norton for forty-five years and as a young adult played softball and golf.

In addition to his beloved wife of nearly forty-one years, he is survived by his devoted daughters Jen Campbell and her husband Tim of Attleboro and Tami Kieser-Nelson and her husband Scott of Florida. He was the dear brother of Veronica Donnelly and her late husband Tom of Taunton, Violet Sherman and her husband Mike of Milford, Richie Lima and his wife Susie of Franklin, Lenny Lima and his wife Sue of Brockton, and the late Virginia Booker, Johnny Lima and Bobby Lima. He was the cherished grandfather of Alyssa and Alexis Campbell and Hunter Nelson. He was the son-in-law of the late Robert “Bud” and Helen Collins, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, April 27th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave,) Norton. Burial will follow at the Norton Common Cemetery in Norton.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 26th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Irving’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Shapiro 9East CCU, 70 Francis St., Boston, MA 02115.
