Obituary

Joseph P. Stachura, Sr., 86, of Uxbridge, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 in Milford Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-three years, Lillian R. (Morris) Stachura. He also leaves his son, Joseph Stachura, Jr. (Mary) of North Smithfield, RI; daughters Mary Elizabeth Carraway (Charles) of Terry, MS; Susanna Stachura-Shulman (Marc) of Charlevoix, MI and Anne Stachura of Millbury; grandchildren, Caroline Gelabert-Noh, Joseph DeSantis, Daniel DeSantis, David Sakolsky, Jacob Sakolsky, Nina Carraway and Eileen Sakolsky; two great-grandchildren, William and Navian; brothers, Rev. Thaddeus X. Stachura, Thomas Stachura, both of Auburn; sister Mary Renaud of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Bernard M. Stachura and brothers John Stachura, Jr. and Paul. Born in Auburn, he was the son of the late John J. and Helen R. (Rudnik) Stachura.
Mr. Stachura was a gemologist and owner of the Joseph P. Stachura Company, Inc. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. He graduated from Auburn High School and studied geology and mineralogy at Arizona State University. His life-long interest in rocks and minerals lead him to found a successful wholesale business which continues to thrive. He enjoyed traveling to foreign lands from his early years in search of stones, nearly always accompanied by his wife, Lillian.
The funeral was privately held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church with his brother officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Uxbridge. HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester assisted the family. Donations may be made to St. Mary’s School, 50 Richland St., Worcester MA 01610
