GORHAM- Rita Maryann Romprey, 82 of Gorham, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness. She was born Rita Maryann Skillins the youngest of three daughters, born to Ray and Mary Catherine (Sanphy) Skillins, on March 18, 1936, in Portland ME. Her family later moved to Hollis, ME where she attended schools until grade 8.
She married Dean O. Romprey, in September of 1951. Rita and Dean had three children, Catherine, Philip and Carol. Rita had a great passion for helping people and was a wonderful companion and friend. She worked for over 30 years for Mercy Hospital in Enviromental Services, she took great pride in her work.
Rita enjoyed needlepoint and has made many gifts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rita is predeceased by her husband Dean Romprey; her sister Edna Skillins Walker; daughter Catherine Romprey Bell, of Hollis and son Philip Romprey, of Phoenix AZ and two beautiful angel babies Jason Demmons and Isabella Romprey.
She is survived by her loving daughter Carol Romprey York, of Gorham and nephew Peter Walker and his wife Mary, of Hollis. 10 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Rita loved her family and was there for every birth and illness. She is sadly missed by those who are left behind, but we know she now resides in Glory with her two children and sister and other loved ones, who have gone before her.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday April 18 from 4 – 6 PM, followed by a 6 PM funeral service at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton.
