Lawrence T. Cleary, of Billerica formerly of Medford passed away April 11, 2018 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington following a short illness. He was 81 years of age. He was the former husband and lifelong companion of Elizabeth M. (Constantino) Cleary. Born in Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada, he was the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Lynch) Cleary.
Lawrence came to the United States as a young boy and settled in East Boston with his family where he was raised and educated and was a graduate of East Boston High School. Following high school, Lawrence enlisted into the United States Navy and honorably served from 1955 to 1959. He received his Associates degree from North Shore Community College and in 1969 he was appointed to the Metropolitan District Commission Police Department and served as a Police Officer until 1989. Lawrence also worked for a number of years with U.S. Postal Service and Eastern Airlines.
Lawrence enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Woburn Country Club where enjoyed playing many rounds with his friends. Lawrence was also a member of the Winchester Elks Lodge.
In addition to his former wife and companion, Elizabeth, Lawrence is survived by his sons, Jason M. Cleary and his wife Teresa of Somersworth, NH, and Jared L. Cleary and his wife Marnie of Riverview, FL. He was the loving grandfather of Erin and Hayden Cleary. Cherished brother of Margaret Glennon of Weymouth, Mary Barker of Winthrop, the late Hannah Maloney and Theresa Ryan.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Tuesday, April 17th, at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Dorothy Church, Main Street, Wilmington, at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
