Mardita (Thompson) Cummings of West Bridgewater, MA and Jensen Beach, FL passed away peacefully under the care of hospice and her family on March 2, 2018 at the age of 95.
She was the daughter of the late Ernest W. Thompson and Marjorie (Dewire) Thompson.
Mardie, as she was known to most, was a special lady who left a friendly smile and a kind spirit everywhere she went. Growing up in the Houghs Neck neighborhood of Quincy, MA gave her a life-long love of the ocean and she continued to find special joy in the beaches of Brewster, MA and in later years in Jensen Beach, FL.
She was the beloved wife of John R. Cummings of Abington, MA for 64 years until his death in 2005 and the loving mother of Judith (Cummings) Anderson of West Bridgewater, MA and Jensen Beach FL, Stephen R. Cummings of Rockland, MA and the late Susan Cummings and John W. Cummings. She adored all 10 of her grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was the brother of the late Frederick W. Thompson and Auntie Dee to Frederick, Jeffery, Gregory and Guy Thompson.
Her church “family” from The United Church of Christ in Abington, MA included so many wonderful people who worked alongside of her on Lenten suppers, rummage sales and Sunday School activities.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held Saturday May 19 at 2:00 PM in the United Church of Christ, 10 Bedford Street, Abington, MA at which family and friends will be welcome. A private burial will be with her beloved husband at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation or your local animal shelter.
