Tirrell Cook age 94 passed away on Monday, April 9. 2018 surrounded by his family and 94+ years of good memories. Husband of Catherine Maloney Cook, father of Alan and Brian, father in law to Janet and Amy, grandfather of Alison and her husband Scott, Alex and his fiancée Katie, Andrew and his fiancée Rachel, Adam, Max and Emmaline and great grandfather of Bryce and Elyse, uncle to Brenda, Glenn, Gregory and Leanne and the son of Louis and Esther Cook and grandson of Judge Louis A. Cook and Lucinda Clarke Cook, brother Of Louis, Cathorn, Aldrich and Arnold Cook.
Mr. Cook grew up in Weymouth as one of the "Nash's Corner Boys". He joined the Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle in Troop 8 at his church Old South Union in Columbian Square. He later became the troop leader and was to many such as Tom Shields of Shields Health Care, "my hero". He excelled in track and cross country and was considered to be the prize runner of legendary coach Oral Page, an opinion shared by many others that gained him induction into the Weymouth Athletic Hall of Fame. He served his country in the United States Army and his town through the Masons and other organizations such as Weymouth Youth Hockey where he became "the" fund raiser to send the kids to the Nationals in Detroit, an effort that garnered him a commemorative jacket embroidered "# 1 Fan".
He met his wife Catherine Maloney Cook at a dance in Quincy and they kept the music playing for over 60 years including a lively jitter bug on their 50th anniversary at the Furnace Brook Country Club where they were married. They bought a home in Weymouth that they proudly maintained to benefit the neighborhood. He had two sons Alan and Brian who received the education he was offered and turned down in the form of a track scholarship to Boston
University because it was the "war years" and that seemed inappropriate to him. Tirrell Cook never had a bad day, never uttered a negative comment, never had a prejudicial thought, never had a regret. Hard of hearing from a childhood disease and largely deaf in later years, he conversed with anyone and everyone about his boys, his grandchildren and Weymouth.
He will certainly be missed but will always be remembered as a loving and caring son, brother, husband, father, father in law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to all.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Tirrell which will be held on Saturday April 14, 2018 from 11am to 1pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. A Funeral Service in honor of Tirrell’s life will take place immediately following the visitation in the Funeral Home. Internment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery in Weymouth.
